Yesterday
on our trip back from Genoa and one of our favorite watering holes we took another
detour, a road about halfway up the mountain as you leave Carson City off of
Highway 50. It turned out to be a newly paved nice road for about a mile when
we came to a crossroads. The pavement turned to dirt as we first took the high
road that led to a few beautiful private residences and what appeared to be a
lot of future home sites that never were completed. The GPS showed the road
going all the way up the mountain but it was rutted and especially this time of
year with there still being snow at the top of Spooner Summit, we decided to
turn back. When we got back to the crossroads, we went down this time. We soon came
across a large gate and a lot of no trespassing signs. We were on an adventure so we
drove on through. The next sign we came across was “Now Entering Washoe Indian
Reservation” and more no trespassing signs. In respect to the tribe I turned
around again and headed back to the crossroads. Now we found ourselves with only
one more road we haven’t ventured. This was the one we chose not to go down
previously as it appeared somebody had spent a lot of money to keep people out and there were more no-trespassing signs than the other two. So we went down anyway. After we
passed the signs warning us we were under video surveillance we started to get
really curious where we were. I mean what’s the worst thing that could happen,
get shot? Oh yea, we were trespassing and we did pass many obvious warnings, but
the scenery was some of the most beautiful we have seen yet. “What could this
be”, we kept asking ourselves.
Then we hit pay dirt.

We found Heaven for anybody the loves the game of golf,
Clear Creek Tahoe Golf Club. The views and scenery are spectacular. It was
another great find as this place is off the charts beautiful and… off the
charts. It’s an invitation only Golf Club that is very exclusive and very hard
to find. I am sure they have put a lot of effort into keeping this place private
and secluded with respect for the members. We had yet to see a single vehicle
and not a single person but we still decided to turn around and head back with respect
to where we were.

Zephyr Cove | |

We soon were back on Highway 50 using both lanes, apexing
our turns as we do to save gas and brakes. We had heard from our neighbor the
beach at Zephyr Cove was a good dog beach (hard to find in Tahoe) so we decided
to stop and let Koda get some exercise. This was another good find. There were
doggie-doo stations everywhere so obviously your pets are welcome. A good thing about
exploring this time of year is you rarely see another sole. We had the park and
beach all to ourselves and Koda loved it. Our quick stop turned into over an
hour of beach fun. But alas, with the restrooms closed for the season and since
we had been on the road for hours we decided it was time to head home and beat
the incoming storm.
